Gloved healthcare worker holding someone's hand

Although the healthcare sector overall saw a rebound in jobs in June, nursing homes and other residential care settings continued to see job losses last month. That’s according to monthly job numbers released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The healthcare sector reported 358,000 “payroll additions” in June. That’s a slight increase from the nearly 313,000 jobs the industry added in May. Hiring in physician and dentist offices continues to recover, and hospitals added 6,000 jobs after declining by 26,000 in May.

Nursing homes saw a loss of 18,000 jobs last month, compared with 37,000 jobs lost in May and 117,000 in April.
