St. Louis-based EmpowerMe Wellness, an integrated healthcare provider to senior living communities, has received a $100 million cash infusion over the past 12 months. A recent investment has come from entrepreneur Jim McKelvey, co-founder of financial payments company Square.

EmpowerMe employs more than 1,000 workers who provide therapy, diagnostic, pharmacy and primary care services in 375 senior living communities across 20 states.

“The future of healthcare, especially senior living, is value-based and outcome-driven,” said Josh Stevens, the company’s founder and CEO. “Our platform helps prepare senior living operators for that future while responding to the current labor and occupancy pressures they face. Having partners like the Hermann Companies and Jim McKelvey who believe so strongly in our mission is crucial to tackling an opportunity this big.”

McKelvey said he was struck by EmpowerMe’s “mission of improving the lives of seniors by using technology and integration,” which led him to invest.

“EmpowerMe is making a significant impact in the communities they serve, and it is a testament to the culture they’ve built and their high level of execution,” said Bob Hermann, CEO of EmpowerMe’s lead investor Hermann Companies, a St. Louis-based holding company.
