» PharMerica selects SinguLab to deliver pharmacogenomics solutions

PharMerica and SinguLab, a nationwide provider of precision medicine and diagnostics solutions, recently entered into a strategic partnership to power pharmacogenomic insights, resources and nationwide diagnostics support.

The partnership is designed to facilitate continuous, real-time analysis of potential medication risks, educate on best practices, and offer clinical providers the option to use SinguLab’s Partner Network for lab solutions.

Pharmacogenomics helps identify and mitigate potential risks associated with an individual’s unique response to a medication, and providers can use tests to help identify safer and more effective therapies, PharMerica noted.

» Drug shortages shrouded in mystery

The US healthcare system is under pressure amid escalating drug shortages. The reasons for more than half of those shortages, however, are shrouded in mystery, according to a Newsweek investigation.

In the first quarter of 2023, there were 309 active national drug shortages, the most since 2014, according to the University of Utah Drug Information Service. Each of those drug shortages affects at least half a million consumers, the US Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation estimates. Many shortages have resulted in the rationing of healthcare necessities.

All but one of 345 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ members polled had reported being affected by a shortage.
