An Amazon executive said Wednesday the company will soon be announcing a number of companies signing up for Amazon Care, the firm’s virtual medical clinic. Babek Parviz, an Amazon vice president working on Amazon Care, made the comments to CNBC during an interview at the Wall Street Journal Tech Health virtual conference.
“We’ve had quite a bit of interest from other companies in using this service,” Parviz said.
Seattle-based Amazon launched its virtual primary care clinic in 2019 as a pilot for employees working near the company’s headquarters. The service provides virtual visits, free telehealth consultations and free in-home visits from nurses for vaccinations and other testing.
In March, Amazon revealed it would be rolling out Amazon Care to employees in all 50 states sometime over the summer and would offer access to the virtual clinics to other companies sometime later this year.
As the company expands its medical service, Parviz said the company will have to hire thousands of employees.
Telemedicine is becoming one of the fastest growing segments of the healthcare industry. Market research firm Grandview Research estimates the global telehealth industry will grow from $55 billion today to just under $300 billion is less than a decade.
