Hackers recently targeted at least two vendors that provide data to the senior living sector.

Casamba, a Birmingham, AL-based provider of electronic medical records, has been partially offline as a result.

“The company immediately notified law enforcement and hired a leading third-party forensic firm to supplement its ongoing recovery efforts,” the company said in a statement. “We are working 24/7 and making progress in bringing all systems back online.”

As of the publication deadline on Tuesday, there was no indication that protected health information had been stolen.

In a separate incident, Russian hackers reportedly removed data from Virtual Care Provider Inc. The thieves were demanding $14 million in ransom. The Milwaukee-based firm provides internet security and data storage for senior living organizations.

Some of the vendor’s customers were unable to access residents’ records, pay employees, order medications or use the internet. As of the publication deadline on Tuesday, the firm was working to restore services.
