Anyone who has been affected by a loved one’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis knows that the experience can pack a punch. At Arabella of Red Oak, a Civitas Senior Living community in Red Oak, TX, residents and staff members are fighting back with boxing gloves and donations as part of their recent “The Longest Day” event.
The itinerary for the day was jam-packed with fun activities, thanks to the hard work of the staff. At the “Knock Out Alzheimer’s” photo booth, residents got into their fighting stances with their hands enveloped in bright red boxing gloves. Although they may not be fighting Apollo Creed anytime soon, the camera made them look ready to throw down for 12 rounds.
Additionally, residents were given the opportunity to donate to Alzheimer’s research for a chance to “pie” a staff member in the face. The only thing sweeter than the baptism-by-baked-goods was the raucous laughter that followed.
“The Longest Day” provided residents and staff members with an opportunity to connect and have a blast as well as promote awareness of the challenges that people living with dementia face on a daily basis. With organizations such as Arabella of Red Oak leading the charge, hopefully the disease will be put on the ropes soon.
