Forty-four senior living communities have been recognized by A Place for Mom for the quality and breadth of activities offered to residents.

The company’s latest list, Best Activities in Senior Living for 2023, is part of A Place for Mom’s Best of Senior Living Awards series, which will culminate in February.

“Our Best Activities in Senior Living Awards celebrate assisted living, memory care and independent living communities that go above and beyond in offering activities that engage residents socially, physically, mentally and emotionally,” Sue Johansen, community network executive vice president, said in a statement. “Many of the reviews in this category emphasize the importance of activities on a senior’s mental and physical well-being.”

Recipients were chosen based on online reviews and ratings on A Place for Mom by older adults and their families. All award winners attained an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars in the activities category and received six or more reviews between April 25 and June 2. Winning communities earned a badge of distinction that displays on their A Place for Mom community page.

Michigan-based Hearthstone Communities had the most winners, with four communities represented: Hearthstone Communities–Barrett and Hearthstone Communities–Lafayette in Macomb Township, MI; and Hearthstone Communities Sterling and Hearthstone Communities–Sterling Heights in Sterling Heights, MI.

Four other providers had multiple winners:

  • Atlas Senior Living, based in Birmingham, AL, had two winners: Legacy Ridge at Peachtree in Peachtree City, GA, and Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains in Marietta, GA.

There were a total of 24 winners in the assisted living category, 27 winners in the memory care category and 15 winners in the independent living category, with some winners overlapping in multiple categories.

Thirty-five communities earned scores of 9.5 to 10 out of 10 stars, and nine communities earned scores between 9 and 9.4 stars.

Florida is the state with the most winning communities, seven. Texas followed, with six communities. Georgia had five, Michigan had four and Ohio had three. Other winning communities were located across 15 states.
