Covenant Living appoints David Erickson and president and CEO

David Erickson has been named president and CEO of Chicago-based Covenant Living Communities and Services

Erickson has been with Covenant for 16 years, most recently as senior vice president and general counsel. He moves to his new role following the recent retirement of Terri Cunliffe, who had been in the position since 2015.

Covenant Living owns and operates 18 communities across 10 states.

Silver Birch Living names Matthew South CFO

Matthew South has been named the chief financial officer at Chicago-based Silver Birch Living, a family of affordable assisted living communities in Illinois and Indiana. 

South has more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance, business development and investment banking. Before joining Silver Birch Living, South was the head of financial planning at Care Hospice. 

He also formerly held various financial roles in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries, focusing on capital-raising, licensing, and mergers and acquisitions transactions.

Knute Nelson | Walker Methodist adds three to leadership team

Katie Perry has been promoted to executive vice president in addition to her role as chief operations officer, Samantha Beckman has been promoted to chief marketing and transformation officer and senior vice president, and Jamie Loken has been hired as the chief information officer and senior vice president at Knute Nelson | Walker Methodist.

Perry has been with the organization for almost two decades. Beckman has been with the organization since 2016. Loken has worked in technology for 27 years. 

The organization has 34 housing communities and a continuum of care that includes assisted living, memory care, home healthcare, wellness, therapy, hospice care and population health, serving more than 11,500 people in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin via more than 2,100 employees.

Wartburg promotes John Schuster and Bridget Zimmermann

John Schuster has been named vice president of real estate project management/administrator and Bridget Zimmermann has been named vice president of operations/administrator for Wartburg, Mount Vernon, NY, following the opening of the Berkemeier Living Center for Alzheimer’s care. 

Schuster has been with Wartburg for 20 years. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from Pace University. He is a graduate of the inaugural class of LeadingAge New York’s Leadership Academy and has served on Leading Age’s Adult Care Facility Statewide Cabinet for the past eight years.

Zimmermann has been with Wartburg since 2019. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart University, Adelphi University and the University of Phoenix and has been on LeadingAge NY’s Nursing Home Cabinet since July 2021.

Carrollton of New Orleans adds Parimal Parikh, MD, and Justin Churchill to leadership team

Parimal Parikh, MD, is the new medical director, and Justin Churchill is the new activities director at The Carrollton of New Orleans, a Liberty Senior Living community. 

Parikh comes to The Carrolton with 44 years of experience in internal medicine, specializing in geriatrics. Churchill started at The Carrollton early last month.

Heritage Point of Warren names Kayla Malott residential living director

Kayla Malott has been named residential living director at Heritage Point of Warren, a Warren, IN, continuing care retirement / life plan community owned and operated by The United Methodist Memorial Home.

Malott has a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as a director of nursing and then as an administrator at an area senior living community. Malott was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare by her grandmother, who worked as a certified nursing assistant.

Residence at Village Greens names Heidi Lyons community relations director

Heidi Lyons has been named the community relations director at The Residence at Village Greens, an IntegraCare senior living community that is set to open in Sinking Spring PA, this summer. 

Lyons’ previous experience includes personal care, memory care and independent living. She also has a background in sales and marketing, as well as in real estate.

Lyons earned a degree in business and finance from the University of Phoenix.

7 elected to Diversified Healthcare Trust board

Christopher J. Bilotto, John L. Harrington, Lisa Harris Jones, Phyllis M. Hollis, Dawn K. Neher, Adam D. Portnoy and Jeffrey P. Somers were elected to the board for Diversified Healthcare Trust at its May 31 annual meeting. The terms are for one year.

Bilotto is president and CEO of Diversified Healthcare Trust.

Western States Lodging and Management CEO Paul Fairholm honored with the 2024 Rebecca Lockhart Award

Paul Fairholm, CEO of Western States Lodging and Management, has been recognized as the 2024 recipient of the Rebecca Lockhart Award by the Utah Assisted Living Association. The Hero Awards, presented annually by UALA, highlight the dedication and efforts of individuals within the assisted living sector. The Rebecca Lockhart Award commemorates the life and contributions of Becky Lockhart, the first female speaker of the House in Utah, known for her collaborative nature and passion for senior living and healthcare.

Fairholm’s career spans more than three decades. He earned degrees from Brigham Young University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Watercrest Excellence Award goes to Regan Troy

Watercrest Senior Living has bestowed its Watercrest Excellence Award on Regan Troy for excellence in social media marketing. The award recognizes the industry partner whose performance most significantly drove sales and supported the vision of the Watercrest Senior Living organization.

Troy is the owner of social media management firm Troy Social.

In an analysis of 42 senior living communities, Watercrest’s pages had 70% more reactions and 69% more comments, on average, than competitors, along with a larger amount of public engagements and shares. The impact influenced the increase in resident occupancy as well as positive employee engagement.

This year, Watercrest launched a widespread campaign across its organization entitled “We Are Watercrest,” spurring associates to celebrate their core values in partnership with excellence in service. Troy led a social media initiative, #WeAreWatercrest, encouraging employees to showcase their contributions to their Watercrest communities.
