Charter promotes Sallerson to president, adds two new leadership positions

Charter Senior Living Chief Operating Officer Jayne Sallerson has added president to her title. Company founder Keven J. Bennema will remain CEO.

Additionally, Cathy Hampton has been promoted to the position of vice president of operations, and Leslie Eldridge has been named regional director of new developments.

Sallerson joined Charter five years ago. Previously, she worked for Benchmark Senior Living and Emeritus Senior Living.

Hampton has been with Charter for almost five years, working as senior regional director of operations. In her new position, she’ll oversee all regional directors of operations as well as the director of programming and memory care and the director of dining services.

Eldridge will transition from her previous position as regional director of operations.

Oaks Senior Living names Bear Mahon CEO and president

Bear Mahon has been promoted to CEO and president at Oaks Senior Living

Mahon will succeed outgoing founder and CEO Alex Salabarria, who will remain involved with the organization and its board. Mahon’s selection is the culmination of a multi-year succession planning process. He previously was chief operating officer, a position he held since 2021. Through a joint venture, he also will remain COO of both CaraVita Senior Care Management and CaraVita Home Care.

Elegance Living announces new CEO, leadership promotions

Lisa Gaudioso has been promoted from chief operating officer to CEO, Anthony Stablien to president, Jennifer Lauer to vice president of people, and Kaitlin Cavinder to vice president of financial planning and analysis at Baltimore-based Elegance Living.

Elegance Living is the management arm of private-equity company Capital Health Group. The company manages a range of senior living properties, from independent living, assisted living and memory care in value-driven suburban markets to high-end luxury communities in urban markets, with a common focus on operational excellence through standardization, technology integration and workforce development.

Discovery promotes Gottfried Ernst to SVP of operations

Gottfried Ernst has been promoted to senior vice president of operations at Discovery Senior Living

Ernst had served as vice president of operations for Discovery since 2021. In his new role, he will continue to oversee Discovery’s day-to-day national operations. Additionally, he will expand his duties and focus on new operational management resources to enhance investor relations and support the continued expansions of Discovery’s national and regional brands.

Frasier CEO Tim Johnson announces retirement

Frasier CEO Tim Johnson has announced that he will be retiring June 30 after serving the Boulder senior living community since 2010.

Johnson served on many industry boards, such as LeadingAge Illinois, LeadingAge Colorado, the Presbyterian Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the United Methodist Association, TRU Community Care and Meals on Wheels Chicago. He was appointed to serve in the House of Delegates of the national LeadingAge association and helped found Novare, a consortium of single-site and small multi-site life plan communities.

Former Acts Retirement CEO George R. Gunn Jr. passes away

Rev. George R. Gunn Jr., Acts Retirement–Life Communities’ CEO and vice chairman of the board from 1995 to 2005, and board member from 2012 through 2022, died March 8.

Gunn joined Acts after a career in advertising. Among his many accomplishments were the creation of Acts Corporate University, the Acts Center for Applied Research and Acts’ Culture of Loving-Kindness philosophy of service. 

HumanGood names Nick Lindberg CTO

Nick Lindberg has been named chief technology officer at HumanGood

Lindberg has been in the technology field for almost 20 years, starting at IBM designing microprocessor architecture and statistical performance models before taking over as director of engineering at The Milwaukee Institute.

Lindberg received two undergraduate degrees, in electrical engineering and computer science, and a maste’’s degree in computer engineering, from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

The Ridge Senior Living promotes Jay Fritzler to VP of development

Jay Fritzler was named vice president of development at The Ridge Senior Living

Fritzler joined The Ridge Senior Living as owner’s representative in 2018 and oversaw the construction of The Ridge Pinehurst, a 371-unit luxury senior living community that includes independent living, assisted living and memory support in Lakewood, CO.

Don Grove has been named the executive director at Charlestown, an Erickson Senior Living-managed continuing care retirement community in Catonsville, MD.

Grove joined the Charlestown team in 2007 as director of sales and marketing, a position he held for 14 years. Prior to joining Charlestown, he worked with the Baltimore Orioles as the team’s senior director of sales and ticketing.

Grove holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Erin Partridge has been named head of Inspirement at Enso Village, a Zen-inspired senior living community in Healdsburg, CA, developed by The Kendal Corporation and San Francisco Zen Center.

Partridge is an artist and a board-certified, registered art therapist who teaches and supervises research in several art therapy programs. Additionally, she is a forest therapy guide, certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.

Partridge’s clinical experience includes work in geriatric, community, pediatric and forensic settings. She is published in elder care, art therapy, arts access, gender, research methods, professional development and technology.

Partridge has more than 16 years of experience working with individuals through art therapy. She earned her master’s degree from New York University and continued her education to graduate from Notre Dame de Namur University, Belmont, CA, with a doctorate in art therapy.

Sharon K. Inouye, MD, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Milton and Shirley F. Levy Family Chair and director of the Aging Brain Center, Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, has been named the editor in chief of JAMA Internal Medicine.

Inouye’s research focuses on delirium and functional decline in hospitalized older adults. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. She previously served as an associate editor at JAMA Network Open.

Inouye succeeds Rita F. Redberg, MD, who had been editor in chief of JAMA Internal Medicine since 2009.

Healthpeak appoints Jim Connor to board

Jim Connor has been appointed to the board of directors at Denver-based real estate investment trust Healthpeak Properties

Connor most recently was chairman and CEO of Duke Realty Corp. until its acquisition by Prologis in October. He currently serves on the boards of Prologis and EPR Properties and is the vice chair of the Roosevelt University Board of Trustees.

The Springs Living names Meaghan Walkup regional director of operations

Meaghan Walkup has been named regional director of operations, southern Oregon, for The Springs Living.

Walkup has led The Springs at Anna Maria in Medford, OR, as executive director for 12 years. Before becoming executive director, she served in a variety of positions at the community, including dining room supervisor, community relations director and healthcare administrator. She started working at the community 17 years ago as a shuttle bus driver.

In 2022, Walkup received the Oregon Health Care Association’s Leadership Excellence Award.

AMDA announces 3 new board members

AMDA–The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine has elected its 2023-2024 Board of Directors. Milta O. Little will serve as president; Rajeev Kumar, MD, FACP, CMD, is president-elect; and Sabine von Preyss-Friedman, MD, is vice president.

Little is an associate professor of geriatric medicine at Duke University and senior fellow in the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development. She previously served three terms on the AMDA board: as secretary from 2012 to 2014; as chair of the House of Delegates from 2014-2016; and as a state chapter president’s counsel representative from 2017  to 2020.

Kumar is a Chicago-based geriatrician who has worked in post-acute and long-term care for more than 25 years. He is joining Optum at Home as Delta Team medical director in April. He also was president of AMDA’s Illinois state chapter and secretary on AMDA’s board.

AMDA has been von Preyss-Friedman’s professional home since her time as a geriatric medicine fellow, when she was medical director for the University of Washington’s associated skilled nursing facility.

The 2023-2024 AMDA board is rounded out by:

Nick Garofoli and Ashley Flann

RCare names CEO, COO

Nick Garofoli and Ashley Flann have been appointed CEO and COO, respectively, at RCare, creator of advanced nurse call and monitoring solutions. The company, founded in 2006, said the transitions had been in the works for more than a year.

Garofoli is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and University of Hartford MBA graduate who joined RCare more than four years ago as vice president of operations and technology. The company said he was selected for his new role due to his proven track record of holistic business management and risk mitigation.

Flann was recruited to RCare for her expertise and vision in sales and marketing. She has an MBA from St. John Fisher University and a background that includes experience in training, marketing and sales.

Although the titles are new, RCare said that the day-to-day operations of the company under Garofoli and Flann will continue mostly unchanged. Jeff Knauss, who purchased RCare two years ago, will remain as owner and president.

Livingston brings more than 25 years of experience in sales leadership and enterprise sales. Before joining ServingIntel, he held senior sales leadership positions at several technology and communications companies, including Bear Robotics, Long Range Systems and JTech Communications.

Livingston holds an undergraduate degree in business management and marketing from  Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock, PA.
