ASC CEO Donna Kelsey to become senior adviser; Steve Van Camp to succeed her as CEO

American Senior Communities CEO Donna Kelsey will become senior adviser to the company in a succession plan that will see current Chief Financial Officer Steve Van Camp become CEO, the Indiana-based company, the state’s largest senior living and care provider, announced Thursday. The moves will be effective June 1.

Kelsey, a 2023 McKnight’s Women of Distinction Hall of Honor inductee, has been CEO of ASC for the past seven years. The organization has more than 100 senior living and care communities, and under her leadership, the company said, “ASC emerged stronger, adding new benefits and technology to support employees, achieving a [Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] quality score above state and national averages, and attaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction among many other accomplishments.”

Kelsey has been active on the Indiana Health Care Association Board of Directors, including service as chairperson. Additionally, she is a 26-year veteran of the US Naval Reserve, where she achieved the rank of captain. In her new role as senior adviser for ASC, she will focus on leadership development and government advocacy for the profession.

Van Camp has served ASC as CFO for almost five years and will bring more than 30 years of experience in operations and finance to the CEO role. Prior to joining ASC, he was CFO of Atlanta-based Consulate Health Care, the largest operator of skilled nursing facilities in Florida. Van Camp graduated with an undergraduate degree in accounting from Manchester University and then obtained an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. He is a certified public accountant (non-active) and began his career at Ernst & Young.

Mark Dice will succeed Van Camp as CFO. Dice, a CPA, has been an ASC finance leader for more than seven years. He brings to his new role more than 25 years of experience as a CFO/controller in the long-term care and pharmacy professions. He was a former audit manager at Ernst & Young and earned his undergraduate degree, with honors, in accounting from Ball State University.

Diversicare names Steve Nee CEO

Steve Nee is the new CEO of Brentwood, TN-based Diversicare, which provides services including assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and more at 43 locations in five states: Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. 

Nee joined Diversicare with more than a decade of experience in long-term care delivery and administration in positions of increasing responsibility, including administrator, vice president of operations, chief operating officer and president.

He holds an undergraduate degree in business from Maryville College and an MBA and a graduate certificate in aging services leadership from Lipscomb University.

Tami Cumings has been named chief operating officer at Silverstone Senior Living

With more than 25 years of executive-level experience in senior living, Cumings most recently was vice president of Caddis. Prior to Caddis, she held executive level positions at The Arbor Company, Sunrise Senior Living, US Memory Care, A Place for Mom and Assisted Living Concepts.

Cumings previously sat on the board for the Texas Assisted Living Association and has been a member of the Argentum COO/sales executive roundtables.

Shawn Neville has been appointed chief operating officer at Salmon Health and Retirement.

Most recently serving as the director of campus operations of Salmon’s The Willows at Westborough continuing care retirement community, Neville started with Salmon in 2021. He is a graduate of Worcester State University and holds a maste’’s degree in business administration and healthcare management from Fitchburg State University.

Buckner promotes Aaron Hargett to senior executive director 

Aaron Hargett has been promoted to the role of senior executive director at Buckner Retirement Services. He will continue to serve as executive director of Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo, TX, while also supporting the executive directors of five additional Buckner communities.

Hargett joined the Baptist Retirement Community senior leadership team in 2007. Prior to becoming the executive director in 2017, he was Baptist Retirement Community’s home health and hospice administrator and director of independent living.

Hargett graduated from Angelo State University with a master’s degree in clinical psychology and an undergraduate degree in psychology. He has worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years. LeadingAge Texas recently named him the network representative for the West Texas network.

Lenbrook names Lindsey Farmer director of enrichment

Lindsey Farmer has been named director of Enrichment at Lenbrook, a continuing care retirement community in Atlanta. 

Farmer previously served in the child welfare field as both a resource development case manager and a foster care case manager. She holds an undergraduate degree in film production from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in social work from Georgia State University.

Martin Allen has been named senior vice president of reimbursement policy at the American Health Care Association / National Center for Assisted Living.

Allen joins AHCA/NCAL after serving as the vice president of revenue cycle and reimbursement services for Toledo, OH-based ProMedica Senior Care (formerly HCR ManorCare). A certified public accountant with a master’s in business administration, he has more than 35 years of extensive work in accounting, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, healthcare compliance, risk management and revenue cycle processes.

Discovery Senior Living adds Jacquelyn Kung to board

Jacquelyn Y. Kung, DPH, has joined the board of Discovery Senior Living as an independent member.

Kung is the former CEO of Activated Insights, a health tech software company that focuses on employee, resident and patient engagement. Under her leadership, Activated Insights grew to capture almost 50% of the market share. The company also received recognition as an Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company awardee.

Prior to her role at Activated Insights, Kung was the chief operating officer and adviser at ClearCare (now WellSky), a cloud-based enterprise software company for home care agencies.

Kung also has experience as a consultant at McKinsey & Co., where she engaged in more than 10 healthcare studies serving provider, manufacturer, supplier and investor growth needs. She also served as the senior director of strategy at the company now known as Erickson Senior Living, as an investment banking associate at Goldman Sachs International and as a consultant for AARP and Boston Consulting Group.

Kung earned her Doctorate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, an MBA from Harvard Business School and an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard College.

She is a board director for the Smithsonian Institute’s SITES traveling exhibits division and a senior adviser at Milken Institute’s Center for the Future of Aging. Additionally, she is a fellow of Nexus Insights, the aging-related think tank founded by Bob Kramer, one of the founders of the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care.
