A Georgia senior living community operator has paid $15,241 in back wages and damages to six employees who worked through their lunch breaks but were not paid for the time, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.
Wilmington Senior Care, operator of the Summer Breeze Senior Living community in Savannah, GA, violated overtime and recordkeeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Labor Department said. Automatically deducting time from workers’ timecards for lunch breaks and not paying the employees who worked through those breaks, the department said, created violations when affected employees worked more than 40 hours in a week. The employer also did not keep accurate records of the number of hours employees worked, resulting in a recordkeeping violation of the FLSA, the department said.
Summer Breeze did not respond to a request for comment from McKnight’s Senior Living by the publication deadline.
