Welltower names Tim McHugh chief financial officer
Tim McHugh has been named senior vice president, chief financial officer, of Toledo, OH-based real estate investment trust Welltower.
McHugh has been with the company since 2016 and most recently was senior vice president, corporate finance. Now he will lead Welltower’s corporate finance function and be responsible for capital markets, portfolio management, financial planning and analysis, information technology, accounting and tax.
Before joining Welltower, McHugh worked for RREEF Management, now known as DWS Investments, where he was responsible for investing in the healthcare, office and specialty sectors. Prior to RREEF, he was an equity research analyst at Northern Trust.
McHugh has an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a chartered financial analyst.
Civitas Senior Living promotes Bobby Lane to chief wellness officer
Bobby Lane, RN, MSN, CNL, has been promoted to chief wellness officer at Fort Worth, TX-based Civitas Senior Living.
Lane began working with the company as an executive director in 2015 and most recently was senior vice president of wellness.
The role of chief wellness officer was created in 2018 to spearhead the company’s quality assurance, performance improvement, program development and innovation initiatives in the wellness department. Chief Operating Officer Misty Miller formerly held the position. “Originally, our goal was to move to a more blended wellness and operations format,” Miller said of her transition from CWO to COO. “However, we quickly discovered that in order to continue to lead and innovate in this sector of senior living, wellness still needed to have its own department and leader in addition to being a focus of operations. Bobby immediately stepped in to help make sure that our wellness department stayed ahead of the curve.”
Lane is a licensed massage therapist, registered nurse and clinical nurse leader with a Master of Science in Nursing degree. As a CNL, he specializes in process improvements and quality assurance. As a CNL who is the Civitas CWO, he plans to bring more of a clinical focus to the wellness department in addition to ensuring that it runs effectively and efficiently.
Golden LivingCenters – Indiana announces Larry Heydon as chief financial officer
Larry Heydon has joined Indianapolis-based Golden LivingCenters – Indiana as chief financial officer. He will oversee the day-to-day financial operations as well as identify new opportunities for growth and improvement.
Heydon brings more than 26 years of healthcare and finance expertise to the role, in which he will provide executive financial leadership for the company’s corporate headquarters as well as the operations of all 23 LivingCenters. Golden LivingCenters – Indiana’s network of healthcare services includes assisted living, skilled nursing care, rehab, hospice and palliative care.
Prior to joining Golden LivingCenters – Indiana, Heydon was president and CEO of Johnson Memorial Hospital for 11 years. He also was the hospital’s CFO for six years. Heydon was the executive director of the Mooresville campus of Franciscan St. Francis Health, where he contributed to the hospital’s expansion efforts.
In addition to his healthcare experience, Heydon has been chairman of the Board of Directors for Citizens Bank – Indiana (Citba Financial Corp.) since 2014.
David Smith resigns as CFO of New Senior Investment Group
David Smith has resigned as executive vice president and chief financial officer of real estate investment trust New Senior Investment Group to accept another business opportunity.
Smith will continue in his current position through the third quarter to ensure a smooth transition for the company. Bhairav Patel, the company’s current executive vice president of finance and accounting and chief accounting officer, will assume these additional responsibilities while the company conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
“We thank David for his significant contributions to New Senior over the past 5 years, particularly his work through the company’s internalization that occurred at the beginning of the year, and we wish him the best in his future career,” New Senior CEO Susan Givens said.
New Senior said that Smith’s resignation is not related to any issues involving the company’’s operations, financial statements, internal controls, policies or practices.
Oakmont Senior Living adds regional executive chef specialist, Andrew Moret
Andrew Moret has been named to the position of regional executive chef specialist for Oakmont Senior Living’s Central Region, supporting communities in Central California and two in Las Vegas.
Moret has been working in senior living for approximately six years. He previously spent time as a chef at the Martini House in St. Helena, CA, and was also a chef at the St. Helena Hospital, where he led the “food medicine” program Take Ten, which is designed to help people with their health through food.
Moret attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. That training included an internship at the 2941 Restaurant in Washington, DC. He also visited China and studied at the Sichuan Culinary Institute of Cuisine.
Oakmont of Pacific Beach names Shawn Amirhoushmand executive director
Shawn Amirhoushmand has been named executive director at Oakmont of Pacific Beach in San Diego.
He comes to the community after having worked in long-term care for more than two decades. He has served as co-chair for the San Diego Organization of Healthcare Leaders and recently was appointed by the San Diego Board of Supervisors to be a member of the Health Services Advisory Board.
Amirhoushmand’s educational background includes degrees in psychology and business administration. He is a licensed administrator for residential care and skilled nursing facilities in California.
The Welstone at Mission Crossing welcomes Jeff Brown as new executive director
Jeff Brown has joined The Welstone at Mission Crossing, a Discovery Senior Living independent living community in Mission, KS, as executive director.
Brown will oversee community and lifestyle programs. Key near-term initiatives for the community include consistency and quality of service, fostering open communication with residents and community leaders, and enhanced safety and security of residents.
Brown has a 32-year track record in health and senior care, most recently with multiple Kansas City-based senior living communities. He earned secondary and post-secondary degrees in long-term care administration, sociology and public administration.
Edgehill names Michael Oloke director of nursing
Michael Oloke has joined Edgehill, a Benchmark continuing care retirement community in Stamford, CT, as director of nursing. He will oversee nursing personnel and patient/resident care, as well as administrative tasks such as recordkeeping and budgeting.
Oloke has worked in the senior healthcare industry for more than 10 years, holding various leadership positions. He joins the Edgehill team after two years as assistant director of nursing at New Carlton Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Oloke earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Walden University.
Friendship appoints Todd Lowe as director of information technology
Todd Lowe has been appointed director of information technology at Friendship, Roanoke, VA.
He and the information technology department are focusing on security, continuing to manage compliance, and upgrading systems organization-wide.
Lowe has more than 15 years of experience in the technology field. He joins Friendship from Newbold Corp., where he managed the technology services division and supported thousands of locations across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Legacy Senior Communities names Rabbi Michael Cohen director of rabbinical services and programs
Rabbi Michael Cohen has been appointed director of rabbinical services and programs for Plano, TX-based The Legacy Senior Communities.
The appointment comes as the Jewish not-for-profit organization seeks to provide a religious and spiritual resource for residents, families, caregivers, staff and volunteers across the organization as well as strengthen ties with the Greater Dallas Jewish community as a connecter to the clergy in the Jewish community. Cohen joins The Legacy Senior Communities with more than a decade of rabbinical experience in providing for a variety of spiritual needs for people of all faiths.
According to Cohen, his path to becoming a rabbi is a bit untraditional: He is a second-career rabbi after formerly practicing family law. He attended the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Newton, MA, during which time he interned at several senior living and care communities, providing religious and spiritual needs for residents, their families and staff members. He since has been certified as an educator of clinical pastoral education, training chaplains for spiritual care in a variety of environments.
Benchmark names Frank Boasorte as executive director of Sturges Ridge of Fairfield
Frank Boasorte has been named executive director of Sturges Ridge of Fairfield, a Benchmark assisted living and memory care community in Fairfield, CT, that opened last fall.
The move is a return to Benchmark for Boasorte, who previously was a regional director of operations for the company for five years. He most recently was vice president of operations for the Northeast region for Milestone Retirement Communities. He also spent 15 years as regional director of operations for Sunrise Senior Living.
Originally from Brazil, Boasorte graduated from Sao Paolo University with an MBA and earned his undergraduate degree in nursing administration from Iona College.
Benchmark promotes Chuck Crush to executive director of Ashland Farm at North Andover
Chuck Crush, CDAL, has been promoted to executive director of Ashland Farm at North Andover, a Benchmark assisted living and memory care community in North Andover, MA.
He brings almost 25 years of healthcare leadership experience to the community, having most recently served as executive director of Benchmark’s Birches at Concord memory care community in Concord, NH, and interim executive director of The Atrium at Drum Hill, a Benchmark memory care community in Danvers, MA.
Crush is a certified director of assisted living who has led assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities and hospice programs in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Virginia. Before working for Benchmark, he was director of hospice for the VNA of Vermont and New Hampshire.
Crush is a graduate of various leadership programs, including the Geisel School of Medicine Leadership program at Dartmouth College and the Disney Institute Leadership Excellence program. He has an undergraduate degree in sociology and social work from Roanoke College.
Benchmark names Deepa Eberlin executive director of Evans Park at Newton Corner
Deepa Eberlin, MPA, LHNA, has been named the executive director of Evans Park at Newton Corner, a Benchmark assisted living community in Newton, MA.
She succeeds Todd Raymond, CDAL, who now is senior executive director at Evans Park’s sister community, Cabot Park Village.
Eberlin has spent her entire career in healthcare, first in hospital administration then in skilled nursing and rehabilitation. She has more than 10 years of experience as an administrator, having worked for Genesis HealthCare, HealthBridge Management (now CareOne) and Wingate Healthcare.
Eberlin earned a master’s degree in health policy and management from New York University and her undergraduate degree from Boston University.
Ziegler appoints Hugh Greene, Bob Kramer to Healthcare Advisory Committee
Hugh Greene and Robert Kramer have joined national specialty investment bank Ziegler’s Healthcare Advisory Committee, an independent group of industry experts who play a key role in advancing the firm’s growth strategies and diverse practice areas within the broad healthcare services and IT sectors.
Greene is the retired president and CEO of Baptist Health, a comprehensive community-based health system that includes five hospitals with net revenue of almost $2 billion and the largest private employer in Northeast Florida.
Kramer is a founder and current strategic adviser for the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care.
LeadingAge Ohio welcomes two new board members
New board members for LeadingAge Ohio include Rich Boyson, president and CEO of Eliza Jennings, and Chris Widman, executive director of Good Shepherd Home.
Board members recently ending their terms:
- Mike Ray, president/CEO of Green Hills Community, who had served on the board since 2009 and was board chair from 2015 to 2016, overseeing the merger of the Midwest Care Alliance and LeadingAge Ohio, and
- ohn Warner, president and CEO of Brethren Retirement Community, who had served since 2012, most recently serving as treasurer.
Walker & Dunlop hires vice president, Patrick Keefe, in Boston
Patrick Keefe has joined Bethesda, MD-based Walker & Dunlop via an expansion of the company’s debt brokerage team. He will be a vice president based in Boston.
Keefe will be responsible for sourcing and structuring permanent, bridge and construction loans for all commercial real estate property types throughout the United States. His hiring represents Walker & Dunlop’s first dedicated capital markets hire in the New England market.
Before joining Walker & Dunlop, Keefe was a director at HFF, where he focused on originating commercial real estate loans as well as structuring equity. He previously held several senior positions at national and regional banks and has been directly involved in more than $2 billion in transactions throughout his career.
Family CareSpace names Nathan Gruber national sales director
Nathan Gruber has joined Portsmouth, NH-based Family CareSpace, which offers a real-time location management platform, as national sales director.
Gruber has more than 20 years of senior living experience that includes managing multi-million dollar portfolios. He has served in corporate leadership positions for a variety of companies, most recently regional director of operations and marketing for Enlivant, where he was responsible for more than $30 million in annual revenue.
Gruber holds an undergraduate degree in gerontology from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH, and is a federally licensed nursing home administrator.
