Bruce J. Beardsley has been named the first CEO of National Senior Campuses, the largest not-for-profit multi-site senior living organization in the country, according to the 2019 LeadingAge Ziegler 200 list.
NSC said its board, of which Beardsley was a member and chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, created the CEO position in anticipation of future industry growth and as part of a strategy related to the 16 continuing care retirement communities it governs via a business relationship with Erickson Living. Erickson develops and manages the communities.
Beardsley assumed the new role on Tuesday.
“The future of the senior living industry presents us with an opportunity to provide more people with exceptional senior living both today and tomorrow,” he said in a statement. “Whether that includes independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing or memory care, our successful collaboration with Erickson Living will ensure future needs are met and that we continue providing industry-leading services to seniors,” he added.
The new CEO has more than 25 years of business development and management experience in healthcare environments. In addition to serving on the board of National Senior Campuses, he has served as chair of Lantern Hill in New Providence, NJ.
“We value our long-standing relationship with NSC and look forward to working with Bruce to bring our unparalleled lifestyle to more seniors across the nation,” Erickson Living CEO R. Alan Butler said in a statement. “At such an important time in the industry’s history, it’s exciting to work with those who also have such a strong commitment to providing the highest standard of services and care to seniors,” he added.
NSC said it works with Erickson Living to identify CCRC trends related to technological, societal, and medical factors that may affect current and future residents. The organization said it reviews strategies recommended by Erickson Living with a goal of balancing future opportunities with future risk.
“Having someone with Bruce’s skill and passion for senior housing join National Senior Campuses as CEO sets the stage for NSC achieving greater success in its mission,” said Michelle Bohreer, who became chair of National Senior Campuses earlier this year. “Bruce’s focus on NSC and its mission serves as a great compliment to our phenomenal manager, with Erickson Living’s superior focus on managing our communities and providing exceptional value to our residents,” she added.
