Residents of Friendship South in Cave Spring, VA, and first grade students from Wasena Elementary School shared their love of art when they gathered Friday.

Representatives of the Taubman Museum of Art have been visiting Friendship every month since October, and the elementary school students have been visiting the art museum every month, too.

During this time, residents and students have created a “pen-pal” relationship, creating works for each other while participating in art history lessons. Both the senior living community and school are displaying each other’s artwork in their buildings.

On Friday, they all gathered at Friendship to learn about drawing portraits and how to incorporate the subject’s hobbies and interests into the artwork.

“It was a great time for all involved,” Friendship South Activities Director Lauren Hale said. “I have enjoyed being able to foster this Vitality Art program and see all the fun and happy times that have resulted from the partnership.”
