Former Los Angeles Lakers basketball forward Lamar Odom is partnering with Regency Palms Senior Living in Oxnard and Long Beach, CA, on a new venture to help older adults and their families find residential senior living.

“Lamar is on a journey to help simplify this process for all seniors and is providing long-term assisted living and memory care solutions that provide the best value for the money,” according to information on the Odom Senior Care website.

Odom’s inspiration, according to the site, comes from his experience as a grandson to a 96-year-old woman who needs to leave her home in the Bronx, NY, after 70 years. The 43-year-old retired baller learned while looking for a senior living community for his grandmother that many communities are “just too expensive,” according to TMZ.

Odom Senior Care does not own any senior living community, nor does it employ any “caregivers, medical professionals or other staff associated with the assisted living and memory care programs.” Rather, it is an authorized referral service provider collecting information for Regency Palms, which follows up with people who complete a form on the Odom Senior Care website.

“Lamar’s goal is to provide seniors with pre-negotiated rates for a thousand communities nationwide,” according to the website.

This is not Odom’s first venture into the healthcare arena. Earlier this year, he purchased residential drug treatment centers in San Diego, El Cajon and Lemon Grove, CA, in a joint venture with Christian hip-hop artist Dontae Ralston and former Hall of Fame skateboarder Dennis Martinez. The launch of Odom Wellness Treatment Centers in April stems from a near-fatal drug overdose Odom experienced in 2015, TMZ said.
