two Bronze National Awards, 2024 Azbees, American Society of Business Publication Editors

McKnight’s Senior Living has won two national Azbee awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

The more than 900 entries in this year’s competition, recognizing work completed in 2023, were judged by 82 experienced business-to-business editors, freelancers and designers. The national winners were announced Thursday.

McKnight’s Senior Living Editor Lois A. Bowers and Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto earned a national Bronze award in the News Analysis category for “Quality, safety, accountability vital, industry leaders say, as Washington Post report cites deaths at ‘dangerously understaffed’ communities,” written by Bowers with additional reporting by Bonvissuto. The article detailed a package published in the Washington Post about assisted living and memory care community residents who had eloped and died — and industry reaction to it.

One judge said that the article was an “illuminating summary of the perils of the senior living industry.”

McKnight’s Senior Living also won a national Bronze award in the Best Print Industry News Coverage category. Named on the award were Bowers, Bonvissuto, McKnight’s Editorial Director John O’Connor and writers Kathleen Steele Gaivin and Aaron Dorman.

The brand previously won four 2024 regional awards in the ASBPE competition; those awards were announced last month.

McKnight’s Senior Living has earned 48 national and regional Azbee Awards since 2016, the first year the brand started regularly entering the competition after the former McKnight’s Assisted Living changed its name and expanded on its print publication by hiring Bowers in 2015 and adding a website, daily e-newsletter, social media and other offerings.

ASBPE is a national organization with the goal of serving and advancing the profession of journalism in business media brands and to encourage the highest ethical standards at those brands. The Azbee Awards of Excellence program is one of the most competitive programs for business-to-business, trade, association and professional publications. The awards recognize outstanding work in magazines, websites, e-newsletters, digital magazines, social media and blogs.
