White Horse Village announces Mark Wasserman as vice president, CFO

White Horse Village has appointed Mark Wasserman as the new vice president of finance and chief financial officer. He brings 26 years of experience to his new role at the retirement community.

Wasserman was the CFO for the Abramson Center, a regional provider of a continuum of geriatric healthcare services, for nine years. He oversaw finance/accounting, information technology, materials management and plant operations functions.

Wasserman previously held the role of vice president of development with a publicly traded real estate investment trust, where he led redevelopment projects. He also worked for two of the big four public accounting firms.

He has an undergraduate degree from Penn State University and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin. He is a licensed certified public accountant, a certified treasury professional, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Ingleside announces Christine Podles as COO, Tim Myers as CFO, Kristin Shanks as director of sales

Ingleside has announced Christine L. Podles as chief operating officer. Former chief financial officer and COO Tim Myers will serve as full-time CFO. The not-for-profit provider of comprehensive older adult services in the Washington, D.C., metro area also has appointed Kristin Shanks as director of sales.

Podles began her tenure at Ingleside at King Farm, one of three life plan communities, as executive director. Three year later, she became Ingleside’s vice president of operations. She has more than 25 years of experience as a healthcare aging services leader.

Podles earned a master’s degree from the Erickson School for the Management of Aging Services and an undergraduate degree in communication and marketing from Bradley University in Peoria, IL.

Myers joined Ingleside as its CFO in 2015 and two years later took on the COO position in addition to his CFO responsibilities. He is a member of the Financial Advisory Panel of the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities – Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. He also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Myers holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA.

In her new role as director of sales, Shanks will oversee all sales activities for Ingleside’s life plan communities, working closely with the sales teams at Ingleside at King Farm, Ingleside at Rock Creek and Westminster at Lake Ridge.

Shanks joined Ingleside in 2010. She has served as the Ingleside at Rock Creek sales director since 2011, formerly serving as the community’s sales counselor. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland College Park.

Westminster Communities of Florida promotes Jim Polaski to senior vice president of operations

Westminster Communities of Florida has promoted Jim Polaski to the newly created position of senior vice president of operations. In this role, Polaski will direct overall operations of the organization and its communities, as well as support community leadership.

Polaski formerly was the regional vice president of operations, overseeing six continuing care retirement communities in Bradenton, St. Petersburg and Tallahassee.

Since joining Westminster in 2014, Polaski has contributed to the operations of the communities in the West Coast region. He was named the Westminster Services Employee of the Year in 2017 in recognition of his exceptional dedication especially during and following Hurricane Irma.

Polaski served in a variety of leadership roles in several not-for-profit organizations in Pennsylvania, including executive vice president, executive director, vice president of affordable housing and community services, and vice president of project development and affordable housing for Pennsylvania.

He holds an undergraduate degree from DeSales University and is a licensed nursing home administrator.

Five Star Senior Living re-elects directors during annual meeting

Five Star Senior Living re-elected Barbara D. Gilmore as an independent director and Adam D. Portnoy as managing director during its 2020 annual meeting of stockholders.

Gilmore received 89.2% of shareholders’ votes cast, and Portnoy received 86.6%. Shareholders also approved (90.1%) the amended and restated 2014 equity compensation plan and executive compensation (90.4%). Shareholders ratified the appointment of RSM US LLP (94.3%) as its independent registered public accounting firm for the 2020 fiscal year. 

Colean Farrar promoted to executive director of Juniper Village at Louisville

Juniper Communities has announced the promotion of Colean Farrar to executive director of its memory care community Juniper Village at Louisville, Louisville, CO. 

Farrar became a certified nursing assistant at age 13 and subsequently was a licensed practical nurse for more than 24 years. She also held positions within senior living ranging from caregiver to floor nurse to director of wellness. 

Ashby Ponds names Elizabeth Dunwoody as sales manager

Ashby Ponds, a Virginia continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living, promoted Elizabeth Dunwoody to the position of sales manager.

Dunwoody has been with Ashby Ponds since 2017, beginning her career as sales associate, where she focused on customer experience during events and enhanced the community’s populating Live the Life Program. In 2019, she was promoted to senior sales associate, managing the administrative components of the realty and moving services program and developing an advanced proficiency with Salesforce.

She is a graduate of the University of Florida and is pursuing an MBA with a concentration in healthcare at the Jack Welch Management Institute in Herndon, VA. Dunwoody is an active member of the ALS Association VA/DC/MD chapter, and the University of Florida Alumni Association.

SCAN Group, SCAN Health Plan appoint Sachin Jain as next CEO

SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan have announced the appointment of Sachin H. Jain, M.D., as president and CEO effective July 1. Jain, appointed after a national search, will succeed Chris Wing.

Jain most recently was the president and CEO of CareMore and Aspire Health, where he oversaw the growth, diversification and innovation of both companies. Under Jain’s leadership, CareMore grew its footprint from four to 12 U.S. states and, with the acquisition and integration of Aspire, 32 states. The company rose to prominence as an innovator in care for frail and vulnerable populations, launching new home and virtual clinical models and a health industry-first intervention to address senior loneliness. 

Before CareMore and Aspire, Jain held senior federal leadership positions in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the founding team at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. He serves on the board of directors at Make-A-Wish America. 

Jain is a graduate of Harvard University, where he earned his AB, M.D. and MBA degrees. He was appointed an adjunct professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and a fellow of the Aspen Institute. His health career began when he co-founded a clinic for homeless individuals as an undergraduate student.

H Contract appoints Mark Craven as new vice president of sales, merchandising

Mark Craven will lead senior living furniture specialist H Contract’s reorganized sales management, marketing and product development operations as its new vice president of sales and merchandising.

Craven served in executive positions for senior living specialist Fairfield Chair for more than 12 years before joining H Contract’s parent company, Hooker Furniture, in 2018. He will oversee a sales organization of 26 sales territories and will work with the company’s customer base, including commercial interior designers and specifiers, senior living and retirement center end users, and commercial furniture retailers.

The new position is part of the company’s strategy to accelerate sales growth.

Spectrio names Daniel Babb as senior vice president of technology

Daniel Babb has been named named senior vice president of technology of Tampa-based Spectrio, a provider of customer engagement solutions. With a background in digital marketing and technology leadership and strategic organizational growth, Babb will leverage his expertise as he oversees Spectrio’s internal systems, infrastructure, and customer-facing products and technology.

Before joining Spectrio, Babb was chief operating officer at Advice Local, a presence management company in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he was responsible for establishing functional areas and departmental objectives, and driving accountability, quality and performance. Before Advice Local, Babb was vice president of technology at TEGNA.

CRG appoints Struan Robertson as vice president of investments

CRG, the real estate development and investment arm of Chicago-based Clayco, announced Struan Robertson joined the firm as vice president of investments for its growing residential business.

The move brings another development executive to CRG’s multifamily and student housing platform, which tapped J.J. Smith as managing partner in April. Smith hired Robertson while at CA Ventures and the duo went on to execute almost $2 billion of multifamily, student housing and senior housing development in nearly 35 markets.

Based in Chicago, Robertson will lead financing and underwriting for CRG’s national multifamily and student housing projects alongside Smith. His role will include procuring capital partners, as well as overseeing investment underwriting, deal due diligence, and transactions and asset management.

In his most recent role. Robertson led and managed deal teams from sourcing through execution. Before joining CA Ventures, Robertson spent five years with the investment bank Keefe, Bruyette & Woods in Chicago and New York City and was directly involved in more than $6.9 billion in management and acquisitions activity and $1.6 billion in capital markets transactions while with the firm.

Robertson holds an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Moseley Architects names Dora Kay new senior living sector leader

Moseley Architects has announced Dora W. Kay as the firm’s new senior living sector leader. 

Based in the Fairfax, VA, office, Kay will spearhead the firm’s efforts to serve a population expected to grow more than 20% in the next five years. Kay has more than 30 years of experience, 20 of which has focused on senior living facilities. 

Since graduating from Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design and joining the firm in 1998, Kay has amassed a portfolio encompassing a variety of project types, including independent living, assisted living, memory care and affordable housing. 

Green Oak Consulting Group appoints Linda Rahn as a senior consultant, promotes John Quigley

Green Oak Consulting Group has announced the expansion of its fund development services with the appointment of Linda Rahn of Long Beach, CA, as a senior consultant. John Quigley also has been promoted to chief national underwriter for the firm’s life care community risk underwriting program. 

Rahn will focus on expanding Green Oak’s service capacity in nurturing retirement organizations’ fund development and planned giving programs across the country.

A certified fundraising executive, Rahn brings her structural and development experience from local and national charities to help retirement organizations develop stronger fundraising programs.

Rahn has held senior and executive level positions with several non-profits, including Dignity Health – St. Mary Medical Center Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation. 

Rahn mentors challenged youth and provides educational support for re-entry women with the Assistance League of Long Beach, where she serves as the chair of the endowment committee.

John Quigley

Quigley was promoted to chief, national underwriter, for the firm’s life care community risk underwriting program. His team provides guidance to life care communities in reviewing their applicants’ risk for potentially using long-term care services.

He began with Green Oaks’ underwriting program in 1998. Since 2015, he has worked exclusively with Green Oak and built a team of underwriters, actuaries and nurse reviewers in support of the program’s needs.
