Brightview Senior Living once again is the only senior living operator listed among employers on the Best Workplaces for Women lists compiled by people analytics firm Great Place to Work and Fortune magazine.

The Baltimore-based provider, which employs approximately 5,000 people, placed at No. 99 on the 2022 list of 100 large employers. Brightview was one of only three aging services firms named to the list of large companies, defined as having 1,000 or more employees. The other two aging services companies on the large employer list were home care companies White Glove Community Care, at No. 8, and ComForCare, at No. 42. No aging services companies made the list of 25 small and medium-sized Best Workplaces for Women, defined as employers with 10 to 999 employees.

This is Brightview’s second time being recognized by Fortune and Great Place to Work as providing a good work environment for women, having also made the list in 2019.

“I’m so proud that Brightview has an environment and culture where everybody feels included, valued and heard,” Brightview President and CEO Doug Dollenberg said in a statement.

Brightview recently announced that Dollenberg would be leading the company under a transition that sees former CEO Marilynn Duker, who joined Brightview in 1982 when it was known as the Shelter Group, moving to the role of co-chairperson. Dollenberg joined Brightview in 2017.  The Best Workplaces achievement, he said, “is a testament to the commitment of every Brightview associate in creating a great place to work.”

To determine the Best Workplaces for Women, Great Place to Work analyzed the survey responses of more than 640,000 women who work for Great Place to Work-certified companies that employ at least 50 women. To be considered, at least 20% of a company’s nonexecutive managers must be women, and at least one executive must be a woman.

Brightview’s award follows accolades in September, when the organization for the second consecutive time was the only senior living company in the country to be named to People magazine’s Companies that Care list and for the fourth consecutive year was ranked No. 1 on Fortune magazine’s Best Workplaces for Aging Services list of large companies, published in partnership with Great Place to Work and Activated Insights, the senior care affiliate of Great Place to Work.

Brightview builds, owns and operates senior living communities in eight states: Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. The company currently has 45 communities.
