National Church Residences names Susan DiMickele new president and CEO-elect

Susan DiMickele has been named president and CEO of National Church Residences, effective June 30. She will succeed Mark Ricketts, who is retiring.

DiMickele has been with National Church Residences for almost seven years and currently is senior vice president of senior living and senior services. Before joining the organization, she was a partner with the Squire Patton Boggs law firm, where she co-led its global Labor and Employment Practice Group.

United Properties hires Phil Cattanach EVP, promotes Karla Carlson to EVP

Phil Cattanach has been hired as executive vice president of commercial development, and Karla Carlson has been promoted to executive vice president of Amira, United Properties‘ senior living brand.

Cattanach spent the past 13 years at Opus as a senior vice president and general manager. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas. He served seven years in the US Army before joining Opus.

Carlson previously was vice president of capital markets. She had a 14-year tenure at Capital Real Estate Inc., where she was a partner/vice president of development before joining United Properties last year.

Acts names Ric D’Amico SVP, real estate and development 

Ric D’Amico has been named senior vice president of real estate and development at Acts Retirement-Life Communities

D’Amico has been a developer for more than three decades and most recently was a partner with The Belaire Group in Des Moines, IA. He serves on the National Board of the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments.

D’Amico has degrees in economics and architecture from the University of Houston.

Grace Management announces Brian Storey as VP of operations 

Brian Storey has been promoted to the newly created position of vice president of operations at Grace Management

Storey joined Grace Management in February 2015 as the executive director of The Highlands, located in Topsham, ME. From there, he moved into a regional director of operations role in  2017. 

Storey is a graduate of the Kendall College School of Hospitality Management, where he earned an undergraduate degree in hotel and hospitality administration. He is accredited in hotel real estate investments, asset management and real estate investment modeling.

Jimmy He has been named controller for Anthem Memory Care. In this position, he is responsible for financial reporting and control of company assets.

He brings 20 years of experience in accounting to the position. He previously was controller for Frontier Management in Portland, OR, and also was controller for The Urban League in Portland.

He earned an undergraduate degree in finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a certified public accountant.

Hewitt has more than 20 years of experience in human resources both in full-time positions and as a consultant in a variety of industries. Before joining Broadview, Hewitt worked as a consultant and as the human resources director at United Hebrew in New Rochelle, NY.

Hewitt earned her undergraduate degree in sociology at Smith College in Northampton, MA. She is a Society for Human Resources Management certified professional and has had her professional in human resources certification for more than 15 years.

Penn Highlands’ WRC Senior Services announces management changes

Penn Highlands recently announced leadership and management changes at WRC facilities in Elk, Jefferson and Clarion counties in Pennsylvania.

Ashley Buzard is the new administrator for Penn Highlands Edgewood Heights Personal Care Home in New Bethlehem, PA. She has 18 years of experience with senior resident services, the past 15 years with WRC Senior Services at various locations.

Kurt Nesbitt has been appointed by Highland Oaks at Water Run — Water Run Landing in Clarion, PA, as its new director of personal care/independent living/affordable housing. Before joining Highland Oaks, Nesbitt was the admissions coordinator at Penn Highlands McKinley Health Center. He also was the admissions/marketing director for Davis Archway Treatment Center and held program management, supervisory and counseling positions with Abraxas Youth and Family Services.

Ronit Ghose, PCHA, recently was appointed administrator of Penn Highlands Laurelbrooke Personal Care Home in Brookville, PA. Before joining Laurelbrooke, Ghose was a patient administrator in the COVID-19 testing operation for AMI Expeditionary Healthcare.

Anthony Nefstead is the new administrator for Penn Highlands McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA. Before joining WRC Senior Services, he was employed by Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center — Guardian Healthcare in Shippenville, PA.

Chase Johnston was named the new administrator at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA. He is a licensed practical nurse who has held patient care positions at Compassionate Care Nursing, Clarion Hospital, Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation and most recently at National Healthcare.

Dana Heitzenrater is the new administrator for Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor Health Center in Brookville, PA. She brings 27 years of nursing and case management experience to the health center. Before joining Penn Highlands WRC Senior Services, she was the administrator for DuBois Nursing Home.

Alexis Miglicio is the new administrator for Penn Highlands Ridgmont, in Ridgway, PA. She brings more than 10 years of experience as an LPN to this position. She has provided direct patient care at both long-term personal care facilities and to people in their homes.

Michaela Wells has been named community relations director for Greenridge Place, an Anthem Memory Care community in Westminster, CO.

Wells brings more 19 years of senior living experience to this position. She previously was business development coordinator for a Brookdale Senior Living community in Denver. She also previously was director of admissions and marketing for Mission San Miguel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Commerce City, CO.

Wells earned an undergraduate degree in English from Colorado College.

Thomas brings more than eight years of experience in the senior living industry to the new role. Before joining Sage Valley, she held roles as an executive director, activity director and a medication technician. Thomas moved to the sales side of senior living in 2019.

Holt Klinger has more than 35 years of experience. Most recently, she was senior director of dementia care for Brookdale Senior Living, a position she had held since 2016. She had joined Brookdale in 2004 as a divisional memory care specialist.

Holt Klinger graduated from the University of Iowa with An undergraduate degree in social work and an aging studies certificate. She later went on to earn her master’s degree in gerontology at the University of Northern Colorado.

She was named a Veteran VIP in 2021 in the McKnight’s Women of Distinction awards program.

Mary Beth Avedesian has been named senior vice president of development at developer Hoffman & Associates. In this role, she will manage several major projects across the region, including West Falls in Falls Church, VA, which includes senior living among its 1.2 million square feet of development across almost 10 acres.

Avedesian brings over three decades of experience to the role, with extensive knowledge of the greater Washington, DC, region with a focus on the Northern Virginia market specifically. She joins Hoffman & Associates from B.F. Saul Company, where she served as senior vice president of acquisitions and development.

Avedesian holds a bachelor of science in Engineering Applied Sciences from Michigan State University and a master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Belmont Village employees win TALA Hero Awards

David Godden, building engineer at Belmont Village Lakeway, and Michael Mack, memory program coordinator at Belmont Village West University, have been named recipients of the Texas Assisted Living Association Hero Award. This accolade recognizes individuals who display the highest levels of care and dedication in senior living.

The Hero Awards ceremony was held earlier this month during TALA’s 2023 Annual Conference and Awards Show. Godden and Mack were recognized in the Community Care and Memory Care Specialist categories, respectively, for their contributions to senior living.

Providence Place’s Amber Baskin wins ‘Emerging Business Leader’ award

Amber Baskin, Providence Place Senior Living‘s regional director of sales, has been given Cumberland Valley Business Alliance’s 2023 “Emerging Business Leader” award.

Baskin was recognized for her pursuit of career excellence while also making valuable community contributions. Baskin is an active member of CVBA, a business partnership between the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce and Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce.

SAGE taps Michele Giordano and Darcy Connors to lead new divisions

Darcy Connors and Michele Giordano have been named executive directors of two new divisions at LGBTQ+ elder advocacy organization SAGE.

Connors will head the SAGEServes division, which will focus on providing high-quality, inclusive programs and services for LGBTQ+ elders in New York and replicated programs throughout the United States.

Giordano will lead SAGEVenture, which will offer innovative programs, products and offerings with forward-looking sustainable funding models.

CAC Specialty appoints J. Kevin Carnell as executive chairman of new healthcare division

J. Kevin Carnell has been named executive chairman of insurance brokerage CAC Specialty‘s new healthcare division, which “will enhance the senior living practice” launched last year.

Carnell’s three-decade career has included managing hospital insurance programs. Most recently, he served as healthcare division director and RCM&D chief legal officer for Union Risk Advisors, where he focused on growth, retention and management of all client relationships, in addition to providing legal advice on employment issues and regulatory matters.

Carnell received an undergraduate degree in English and communications from the University of Delaware and a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.
