Saint Therese names Craig W. Abbott president and CEO

Craig W. Abbott has been named president and CEO of Saint Therese, Saint Louis Park, MN, after a nationwide search by the board of directors. He will join Saint Therese in late May.

Abbott will succeed Barb Rode, Saint Therese’s current president and CEO, who is retiring after 21 years in the role. She will continue to lead the organization until late May. Before then, she will be inducted into the McKnight’s Women of Distinction Hall of Fame.

Abbott’s career began in nonprofit aging services in 1993 with Volunteers of America National Services. He also has held operational leadership roles with other nonprofit organizations, including the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and Minnesota Masonic Homes.

Most recently, Abbott was executive vice president of Health Dimensions Group, a privately held company based in Minneapolis that provides third-party management services and client consulting services across all 50 states. Over the past 17 years, Abbott has held a myriad of executive leadership positions at the organization, and McKnight’s Senior Living published a guest column authored by him while he was there, in 2020.

Throughout Abbott’s career, his responsibilities have progressed from single-site skilled nursing facility leadership to providing multi-site operational, consultative and executive leadership roles on a nationwide basis. In addition to working with existing communities, Abbott also comes to Saint Therese with experience developing, opening, managing and expanding start-up senior living communities.

As a licensed nursing home administrator in the state of Minnesota, Abbott previously received the Kal Michaels Administrator of the Year Award. He has served on the board of directors for Leading Age Minnesota, has led multiple organizations that have received “Great Places to Work” designations, was appointed to Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s Task Force for State Veterans Homes, and was named to LeadingAge Minnesota’s “50 for the next 50” list.

Abbott holds an undergraduate degree in business management and hospital / healthcare administration from Moorhead State University and an undergraduate degree from Concordia College, both located in Moorhead, MN. In addition, he holds an MBA certification in healthcare, business and quality management from the University of St. Thomas Center for Medical Affairs in Minneapolis.

United Methodist Communities’ CEO Larry Carlson announces retirement

The board of directors at Neptune, N.J.-based United Methodist Communities has begun the process of recruiting and selecting a new CEO after the organization’s current CEO, Lawrence D. Carlson, announced that he intends to retire later this year. 

Carlson has served in his role since 2011, and his tenure with the nonprofit senior living provider has been marked by organizational growth, innovation and commitment to UMC’s mission. He has more than 45 years of experience in the sector. 

In a recent letter to board members, residents and families, donors, and other internal UMC stakeholders, Carlson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as UMC’s president and CEO for the past 11 years. He also reflected on his pride in the committed and collaborative culture of the ministry and his appreciation for those with whom he has served.

Ingleside hires new CFO, announces COO’s new board appointment

Ingleside has announced a new chief financial officer and a new board appointment for its chief operating officer.

The Rockville, MD-based organization has named Jamie Spencer as its new chief financial officer after he has served as interim CFO for the past six months. Spencer will provide both analysis and support to senior housing developers and senior care providers.  

Spencer graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor’s degree in finance and earned a master’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University. He also is a certified public accountant licensed in Pennsylvania.

Ingleside also announced that Christine Podles, its chief operating officer, has been named to LeadingAge Maryland’s Board of Directors. Podles brings more than 30 years of experience as a healthcare aging services leader to this appointment. Prior to working as COO, Podles was the vice president of operations for Ingleside and served as the executive director at Ingleside at King Farm.

Podles has the designation of health service executive and is a licensed nursing home administrator in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. She is a quality assurance and performance improvement-certified professional and a Lean facilitator. Podles served as chair of the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators in Maryland and a trustee on the Lifespan board.

Laurel Circle names Doreen Anthony as new director of human resources

Doreen Anthony has been named the director of human resources at Laurel Circle, a life plan community in Bridgewater, N.J. In this position, Anthony will be responsible for developing and executing strategies for attracting and retaining a high-performing and engaged workforce.

Anthony comes to Laurel Circle with more than 30 years of experience in the human resources field. Previously, she was the director of human resources for Erickson Living and C3i Inc. In her most recent position, she championed employee engagement initiatives across all departments and oversaw high volume recruiting of medical, ancillary and professional staff.

Anthony has served on the board of directors for the Employers Association of New Jersey since 2013. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in human resources management from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J.

Landis Quality Living appoints Melissa Sarnocinksi to board of directors

Melissa Sarnocinski has joined the board of directors at Landis Quality Living, part of Landis Communities, Lancaster, PA.

Sarnocinski has held a variety of positions throughout her career and currently is an assistant vice president / commercial relationship manager.

She holds a degree in business management and has worked in the banking industry for more than 20 years. In addition to her job experience, she also has completed the Leadership Berks program, a United Way of Berks County program about board governance of nonprofit organizations.

Sarnocinski has served on a variety of boards throughout her career, including Neighborhood Housing Services in Berks County and the Finance and Audit Committee at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

American House names executive, community relations directors

Two new on-site leaders have been hired at American House Village at Bloomfield, Bloomfield, MI. The independent living community is set to open this summer. 

Mallory Mock is the community’s executive director. She has been with American House for six years, holding leadership positions at three different locations. She holds an undergraduate degree in health administration and a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University. In addition, she has more than three years of experience related to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority tax credit.

Kyra Jackman has been hired as the community relations director. Jackman brings eight years of experience in the senior housing industry to the role, including work in all levels of senior living and care. Her career includes work at Henry Ford Village, Advantage Living Centers and Rite Aid.

Lifespace hires Brandon Bonrstein as Abbey Delray executive director

Brandon Bornstein has been hired as executive director of Lifespace Communities’ Abbey Delray retirement community, located in Delray Beach, FL.

Bornstein began his senior living career in finance and over time gained experience as an operations specialist and executive director. He most recently was executive director of Somerby Franklin retirement community in Nashville, TN.

Bornstein earned his undergraduate degree in finance and his MBA in finance from Tennessee Technological University.

Windsor Pointe names Bartholomew Perry residence director

Bartholomew Perry has been named residence director at Windsor Pointe of Jacksonville, a Florida independent living community is owned and operated by Legend Senior Living. With more than 20 years of management experience, Perry will be responsible for the overall management and operation of Windsor Pointe.

Perry comes to Windsor Pointe from his position as general manager of all hospitality operations for the U.S. Army’s Fort Polk and Fort Benning. His experience as a hospitality expert for the government has taken him to management roles in diverse and far-flung locations, from Hawaii to Puerto Rico and the southern United States. Most of his hospitality management experience has seen Perry in charge of food and beverage operations, with hundreds of employees, over multiple managers, serving thousands of meals a day.

He attended college in Tampa.

Lifespace Communities re-hires former executive director, Rob Salierno

Rob Salierno has been hired by Lifespace Communities to be executive director of Claridge Court, Prairie Village, KS. He previously was executive director of the community for five years, from 2011 to 2016.

Salierno began his career at Claridge Court at age 17 as a dining room server, then was lead server, dining room manager, and food and beverage manager. He ultimately earned his administrator’s license and served in that capacity at another Lifespace community before returning to Claridge Court as executive director in 2011.

He received his undergraduate degree in business administration and his executive master of business administration in management degree from Rockhurst University.

The Lantern at Morning Pointe names Michelle Sutter executive director

Michelle Sutter has been hired as executive director of The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Morning Pointe Senior Living, Chattanooga, TN, has announced. 

Sutter assumes the executive director position after previously working in senior living for three years as an executive director in Florida. She is CORE-certified with the American Health Care Association / National Center for Assisted Living and also is a certified pharmacy technician in Tennessee.

Her business experience also includes human resources and executive management positions for more than 20 years, as well as ownership of several small businesses in the Chattanooga area.

NewPoint Real Estate Capital hires Susan Mudry as senior managing director

Susan Mudry has joined NewPoint Real Estate Capital as senior managing director for process reengineering and strategic execution. She is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

In her new role, Mudry will identify opportunities for NewPoint to refine and optimize operations within its expanding real estate finance platform, working across the organization to ensure that new product development and strategic initiatives are successfully implemented. Mudry also will lead the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategy.

Over the course of her career, she has gained experience across a variety of areas, including enterprise risk management, capital markets, strategy, communications and operations.

Mudry worked in a wide variety of leadership roles throughout her 25-year tenure at Freddie Mac. Beginning as a financial analyst, she advanced to the role of vice president and chief of staff to the CEO at Freddie Mac before joining NewPoint.
