Commonwealth announces several regionally focused positions
Charlottesville, VA-based Commonwealth Senior Living has hired a senior regional vice presidents and two regional vice presidents, and the company also has promoted two people to regional vice president positions.
New hire Monet Morris has been named senior regional vice president, and new employees Victoria Leitgeb and Rebecca Sturtz have been named regional vice presidents.
Morris will oversee the operations of Commonwealth’s peninsula communities and provide support to the company’s eastern communities. She has more than 10 years of experience in the assisted living, personal care and hospital industries. She is a licensed assisted living administrator and licensed practical nurse, and she has an undergraduate degree in healthcare administration. Morris most recently was the market vice president of Richmond Jencare, providing leadership and management for four centers in the greater Richmond area serving more than 4,500 patients with the development and delivery of Medicare Advantage programs. Before working at Jencare, Morris was chief operating officer and acting CEO for Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute for several years. She has worked for Brookdale Senior Living, Grace Healthcare and Sunrise Senior Living as an executive director and senior executive director.
Leitgeb most recently was regional director of operations with Legend Senior Living for more than three years and is an LPN and certified personal care home administrator. Before Legend, she was director of operations for Good Neighbor Care and worked at many senior living companies as director of nursing and executive director. She will oversee operations of northern communities.
Sturtz most recently was regional director of operations at Five Star Senior Living for 13 centers in North Carolina and South Carolina. Before that, she was regional director of operations for Century Park’s southeast region. She has been a senior executive director and vice president of operations and business development at retirement communities. She will oversee Commonwealth’s southwest communities.
Additionally, Amber Foster has been promoted to regional vice president and will oversee the operations of Commonwealth’s northwest region communities. She is the former executive director at Commonwealth Senior Living at Front Royal, Front Royal, VA, and also held positions dining services, concierge, business office manager and assistant executive director positions there.
Gary Pelton, former executive director of Commonwealth Senior Living at Kings Grant House, Virginia Beach, VA, has been promoted to regional vice president and will oversee the operations of the company’s eastern communities.
Anthem Memory Care appoints Arlene Crawford as ED for Murrieta, CA, community
Arlene Crawford has been named executive director for Vineyard Place, an Anthem Memory Care community in Murrieta, CA. In this capacity, she will oversee all daily care, programming and operations.
Crawford previously was operations manager of Clearwater South Bay in Torrance, CA. She also previously was operations manager for Elmcroft Senior Living in San Diego, CA.
Crawford brings more than 16 years of senior living experience to her new role, including 10 years as an executive director. She completed coursework in public health administration at California State University, Los Angeles.
Buckner Westminster Place appoints Crystal Muniz as new executive director
Crystal Muniz has been appointed the new executive director of Buckner Westminster Place, Longview, TX, effective Sept. 7. She will take over the position following David Sims’ three-and-a-half year tenure.
As Westminster Place celebrated its 25th year anniversary, Muniz celebrated that same amount of time serving seniors. Most recently, Muniz was the healthcare administrator for another Buckner Retirement Services community, Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo, TX. There, she worked at the Sagecrest Alzheimer’s Care Center.
Before working for Buckner, Muniz held a variety of positions, including business office manager and certified nursing assistant and human resources. She holds an undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University and a long-term care administration certificate from Tarrant County Community College.
Friendship welcomes Nathaniel L. (NL) Bishop to board of directors
Nathaniel L. (NL) Bishop has been appointed to the board of directors of Friendship, Roanoke, VA.
Bishop serves as the chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer at Carilion Clinic, as well as the senior associate dean for diversity, inclusion and student vitality at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has 32 years of experience in the healthcare sector and was licensed to practice long-term care administration and preceptorship in Virginia for 23 years (1990 through 2013).
He holds a Master of Science in education degree from Virginia Tech and a doctorate degree in ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington D.C.
LeadingAge Florida elects Bruce Jones as new chair of the board
Bruce Jones was elected by LeadingAge Florida, Tallahassee, FL, as the new board chair during the organization’s convention in Orlando.
Jones is the CEO of Vicar’s Landing and serves on the board of directors of the St. John’s County Council on Aging. He also is chair-elect of the Brooks College of Health Dean’s Council at the University of North Florida, as well as a fellow of both the American College of Health Care Administrators and LeadingAge’s Larry Minnix Leadership Academy.
Along with Jones being elected as board chair, senior living leaders in Central and South Florida also were elected to serve on the organization’s board of trustees during the convention. These newly elected members:
- Andrew Dujon, president and CEO of Waterman Village, Mount Dora.
- Alex Maliwacki, health center administrator at Sunnyside Village, Sarasota.
- Angela Rohr, executive director at Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center.
- Terry Rogers, CEO of Westminster Communities of Florida.
- Jennifer Stevens, executive director of Abbey Delray South, Delray Beach.
Apploi adds Pat Mulloy to advisory board
Pat Mulloy has joined the advisory board of Apploi, a New York-based recruiting, onboarding and credential management software company serving healthcare organizations. Mulloy will work alongside other board members to guide the company in its mission to directly address hiring challenges facing healthcare employers.
Apploi said that Mulloy’s addition to the team marks a significant milestone as the company expands to support the healthcare hiring needs of new customers in assisted living.
Mulloy is currently of counsel for Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs and is chairman of Argentum’s board. He also is a member of several other boards, including those of Assembly Healthcare and University of Louisville Health.
Among his roles in senior living, Mulloy was the president and CEO of Elmcroft Senior Living from 2006 to 2018 and the president and CEO of Atria Senior Living from 1996 to 2000. He earned an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
Sunstone Hotel Investors names Douglas M. Pasquale interim CEO
Irvine, CA-based lodging real estate investment trust Sunstone Hotel Investors has appointed Douglas M. Pasquale, current chairman of the Sunstone board, as the company’s interim CEO.
Pasquale currently is CEO of Capstone Enterprises, an investment and consulting firm he founded in January 2012. Previously, he was senior adviser to Ventas upon the closing of its acquisition of Nationwide Health Properties, a REIT that invested in senior living communities, skilled nursing facilities, medical office buildings and specialty hospitals. Before the acquisition, Pasquale was the chairman of the board of NHP from 2009 to 2011, was president and CEO from 2004 to 2011, and was executive vice president and chief operating officer from 2003 to 2004.
Prior to joining NHP, Pasquale held executive roles at ARV Assisted Living, Atria Senior Living, Richfield Hospitality Services and Regal Hotels International-North America.
Pasquale serves on the boards of Alexander & Baldwin, Terreno Realty Corp. and Dine Brands Global. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting and his M.B.A. from the University of Colorado.
